Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is set to formalise his interest in FC Basel attacker Mohamed Salah by tabling a written £8million bid later this week following talks with the clubs owners, according to the Mirror.

American owners John Henry and Tom Werner were in the stands to watch Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa after flying over from the States for an update meeting on how things are progressing at Anfield.

The Mirror claim talks were held with Brendan Rodgers and his staff on Friday where they discussed potential transfer targets, with Salah believed to be top of their agenda.

The 21-year-old Egypt international has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks with the Merseysiders sending their scouts to watch him on several occasions this season.

The newspaper suggests that Rodgers has now been the green light to make his move for the player following talks with the clubs owners, and hopes to persuade Basel to sell for just £8m despite the Swiss champions valuing the player at nearer £14m.

The report also states that the Reds will point to the fact that Salah is about to enter the final two years of his contract and is keen on a switch to England during the negotiations in the hope that it will persuade Basel to cash in.

Salah is predominantly a winger but can play anywhere across the midfield and even play up front if required, so he’d certainly provide Rodgers with plenty of options in attack if he does end up making the move to Anfield.

He has also shown he has an eye for goal and can cut it against top Premier League opposition after netting in both games against Chelsea in the Champions League groups stages this season, while he also impressed against Tottenham in the Europa League the year before.

It remains to be seen how Basel will respond to Liverpool’s formal offer, but at least it’s positive for LFC fans to know the clubs owners are willing to back the manager in the transfer marker this month and who knows, Salah could be the man who ends up securing the club a top four finish this season.
