Arsenal Told To Pay £10m For Hitman After Wenger Fails With Late Loan Bid

By on January 31, 2014

With the January transfer window entering it’s final stages clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of an Arsenal approach for a striker.

Papiss Cisse

Arsenal failed with an audacious last ditch attempt to take Papis Cisse on loan for the rest of the season with Newcastle United only interested in a £10m permanent sale, according to the Express.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of strikers throughout the day as Arsene Wenger frantically tries to add to his strike-force before the window slams shut and it appears his search led him to St James Park.

The Express are one of several media outlets who claim we made a late call to the Geordies to try and take Cisse on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

However, the newspaper suggests that Newcastle knocked back our approach and made it clear they would only be interested in selling the 28-year-old on a permanent basis with the striker valued at around £10m.

Cisse made a flying start to his career on Tyneside following his move from Frieburg in January 2012, scoring 13 goals in 14 games during the second half of the season.

But the Senegalese hitman has struggled to regain that kind of form over the last 18 months leading to him falling out-of-favour under Alan Pardew this season, and it looks like he could fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Dutch striker Luuk De Jong.

It was certainly a shrewd move by Wenger as Cisse is experienced in the Premier League and would certainly have offered us something different up front, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen unless we’re prepared to make the move permanent and pay the required £10m fee.

Why must wenger wait till the 11th hour before making efforts to get a striker? It’s too late for him. This is a clear sign of unseriousness on their part. Wont be baffled if arsenal end up trophyless ds season again… The fact is “arsenal has got no ambition”.

I have to wonder if Wenger ever learned anything about the English Premier League during his time at the club. This period of the season is the most competitive. The period where you simply cannot just patch up players and send them back in the field of battle. You have to add to your squad, even if it is a few loan players who can deliver a bit of magic – a touch of class.

Not the repeat of the Squallaci again and again. Here is where he also repeatedly go wrong. Our more promising youngsters he sends out on loan. Where is the emergency cover!!

This is mind bugling! I end with a dare to Le Professor: Prove us wrong!

yar what on earth is wrong with this guy. Is he on suicide mission or something. When we had fabregas.. we were missing a quality striker v persie being sidelined by injury. When we had v persie back we were without a assist provider. Now its the same….. ozil is without a quality striker…… spare me but a tired giroud misses too many chances & bendtner gives a dummy to himself before shooting by passing with his other foot… ..just ridiculous how wenger considers bendtner above berbatov ……just sack wenger yar… .its too much……just needed one good striker to challenge for all 3 cups
