Wenger Linked With Summer Move For Italian Striker

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a summer move for a controversial Italian striker this summer after failing to add to his strike-force in January.

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli: In His Man City days

Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for controversial AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli, according to reports in Italy.

It was a hugely frustrating January window that saw us fail to bring in a new front-man to help ease the load on Olivier Giroud during the season half of the season, and the only one player we did sign – midfielder Kim Kallstrom on loan – has now been ruled out for up to six weeks with a back injury.

We were linked with a whole host of strikers last month and Balotelli was a name suggested by some newspapers, but a move failed to materialise and the former Manchester City man stayed at the San Siro.

However, it seems Arsene Wenger may have retained his interest with reports coming out of Italy claiming that the Frenchman is going to monitor the 23-year-old’s situation over the coming months and may make another move to bring him back to England this summer.

The report suggests that Balotelli’s relationship with AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is strained and he may consider a move at the end of the season, particularly with the club looking likely to miss out on Champions League qualification.

Balotelli is certainly an enigma but while his attitude is questionable to say the least, his talent isn’t in doubt. When he’s on top form, he’s an excellent player. However, while Wenger is known to be the master at building strong relationship’s with his players, even he may struggle to control ‘Super-Mario’.

While I feel he’d be a decent signing due to his obvious talent, I’m not convinced anything will come of this and I think Wenger may have bigger targets in mind this summer. Whether he’ll be able to land any of them remains to be seen, but I don’t think we’ll see Balotelli in an Arsenal shirt any time soon.
