Chelsea Offered Tempting Diego Costa + £8m Swap Deal In Exchange For Courtois

Chelsea have held formal talks with Atletico Madrid with the two clubs discussing a swap deal involving Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois worth £40million.

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, could Chelsea be set to swap Thibaut Courtois for Diego Costa?

Diego-Costa-Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have tabled an offer of £8m PLUS Diego Costa for on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, according to the Daily Star.

The report claims that the two clubs held official talks in London last week where Atletico made two very tempting player-plus-cash offers in exchange for Courtiois, and further negotiations are expected later this month.

The first offer is believed to have seen the La Liga outfit offer £16m and highly-rated midfielder Koke in return for the Belgian keeper, but the second and more tempting offer was £8m plus striker Diego Costa.

Jose Mourinho has already hinted he’ll be in the market for a world class striker this summer and Costa is reportedly among his top targets, so the Portuguese coach might be willing to use Courtois as bait to get his hands on the Brazilian-born hitman.

Costa has been in sensational form for Atletico this season, scoring 25 goals in just 29 appearances to help his club keep pace with Barcelona and Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table as well as see them through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

With the 25-year-old having a £32m buy-out clause in his contract, a deal including him as well as £8m would value Courtois at £40m – which would be a HUGE fee for a goalkeeper. With Petr Cech still going strong between the sticks for Chelsea, the club may find it difficult to turn down such an offer, particularly as it would mean Mourinho would also get the world class striker he wants.

The Blues current crop of forward’s have failed to find the back of the net on a consistent basis this season and having Costa playing in front of the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian next season is a mouthwatering prospect for Chelsea fans.

†o me, such deal is called “tempting” because quiet aiit chelsea needs such a striker in their ranks but still letting such a wonderful goalkeeper leave is a tempting issue. Well I think “Sir Mourinho” and Mr Abrahmovich should sit down with †ђξ management, think about this very well before concluding because †ђξ future is most important in terms of †ђξ goalkeeping area. We can get other strikers too by summer if we can have some patient after †ђξ world cup, though †ђξ price stag then can be influated but my advice is let †ђξ management sit and discuss things out before concluding.

Mourinho shld over look that deal or better still costa is a good striker and they shld only sell two of our current strikers to buy him or use torres as a make way or better still they shld use physical cash or go for other options bcos good strikers are all around but very difficult to find very good goalkeepers infact courtois is a wonderful keeper and chelsea shld not make a mistake bcos if they do they will go back and buy that guy 70million pounds and even currently his better than cech so why not use cech.
