Arsenal have been handed an injury blow with the news that defender Kieran Gibbs has been ruled out for up three weeks with the injury he picked up in midweek, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old was forced off during the first half of our 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday with what was initially though to be a buttock injury.

It seems the injury has spread as the Mail claims he’s also feeling pain in his lower back and upper hamstring and scan results on Friday confirmed he’ll be out for up to three weeks.

Gibbs will certainly miss today’s clash with Sunderland as well as next weeks trip to Stoke City, and he’ll also likely miss England’s friendly with Denmark on March 5th.

The news comes as a blow as Arsenal are about to head into a defining period of the season and although Gibbs should be back in contention to face Everton in the FA Cup quarter final on 8th, he won’t be 100% match fit.

Obviously we’ve got Nacho Monreal to fill in but Gibbs is the recognised first choice left-back and you’d prefer he was firing on all cylinders as we kick off a nightmare run of at least six fixtures that will determine whether this season is a success or failure.

You’ve also got to feel for Gibbs as missing the England friendly will hamper his chances of making Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summers World Cup.
