Sagna’s Contract Demands Revealed As Arsenal Risk Losing Defender To Rivals

By on February 24, 2014

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, more on the future of Bacary Sagna.

Arsenal risk losing Bacary Sagna to either Chelsea, Manchester United or Manchester City this summer unless they meet his contract demands, a source has warned the Daily Star.

The French international is enjoying a fine season at right-back and his consistent displays have helped Arsenal mount a serious title challenge this season, with the north Londoners currently just 1 point of top spot.

However, Sagna is out of contract at the end of the season and understandably he’s been linked with a whole host of top clubs both here in the Premier League and throughout Europe.

The Daily Star claim Chelsea, Manchester United or Manchester City are all keen on luring the 31-year-old away from the Emirates Stadium and are prepared to tempt him with a contract worth over £100,000-a-week and a four year contract.

So far Arsenal have offered just a two-year extension on similar terms to his current £60,000-a-week deal and an apparent source has told the newspaper that while Sagna wants to finish his career with the Gunners, they must ‘wake up’ and meet his £6m-a-year demands or he will “100 per cent” leave the club this summer.

“He will leave 100 per cent for sure unless Arsenal wake up in the next couple of months and offer him new good terms.

“It would have to be in the region of £6m a season on a three to four year contract, plus a signing-on fee of around £6m.

“He wants to finish his career at Arsenal as long as the board give him the right deal.” A source close to Sagna told the Star

A contract worth in excess of £100,000-a-week over three or four years as well as a £6m signing on fee would be a huge investment for Arsenal, especially when you consider they’ve had a strict wage structure up until now which has included not offering deals longer than one-year to players over 30.

Sagna has been one of their most loyal and consistent servants over the past seven seasons but the longer he goes without signing an extension, the more it looks like he’ll be leaving this summer.

If he does end up leaving north London, Arsene Wenger is going to find it extremely difficult to find a player capable of filling his boots and it would be a double blow if Sagna was to join a domestic rival, so I’m sure the French boss will be doing his utmost to tie the right-back down to fresh terms as quickly as possible.

I hope Arsene Wenger listen to opinions of Arsenal’s fans about Sagna and Rosicky. Their loyalty should be rewarded with incentive contract extension.100000 pounds a week deal for 3 to 4 year contract is good for a player who has served the club for 7 years.Help us tell Wenger to always honour loyalty especially from committed players like Sagna and Rosicky.

Sagna should not be allowed to leave. Arsenal should do what soever it takes to keep Sagna. You can get a good defender, but not one as good as Sagna, who can play very well in any position of the back four. Sagna is an experience professional player, who even at his age, can still be of great service in the next four years. He still worth, whatever he is demanding, instead of allowing him to leave for free. Wenger, give us Sagna, and dont allow him to leave freely, other big clubs, are ready to grab him. Gunners 4ever.

The club needs him but 2 to 3yrs contract should be okay that will give the club time to find a perfect replacement.
