Liverpool Ready To Battle Arsenal For £25m Striker After Agent Hints At Move
Liverpool are lining-up a move for Arsenal target Karim Benzema after the players agent confirmed the striker would consider a switch away from Real Madrid.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Liverpool are ready to battle Arsenal for Karim Benzema.
Liverpool are lining-up an ambitious move for long-term Arsenal target Karim Benzema after the players agent confirmed the striker would consider a switch away from Real Madrid this summer, according to the Metro.
Benzema has been in decent form for Real this season, scoring 18 goals in 34 appearances, but he’s yet to cement himself in the hearts of the Bernabeu faithful and has been the subject of jeers from the stands at times this campaign.
It’s led to speculation he could be on the move this summer and it seems there will be interest from the Premier League with the Metro claiming that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing an ambitious move for the French international IF they manage to qualify for the Champions League this season.
The newspaper cites reports coming out of Spain that claim the 26-year-old’s agent has told Liverpool his client would be open to leaving Madrid at the end of the season and the Reds will put together an attractive proposal to try and lure him to Anfield should they seal a top four finish.
However, understandably Liverpool will be not be the only club interested and the Metro claim that as well as a number of top European sides, Arsenal will also renew their interest with a deal likely to cost any club in excess of £25m.
It would certainly be a huge coup if either Liverpool or Arsenal were able to persuade Benzema to leave Madrid and come to England. The striker has bagged 105 goals in 217 games since joining from Lyon in 2009 but there has always been speculation he’s unsettled and that’s unlikely to change this summer.
Arsenal have long been linked with the player and reportedly tried to sign him last summer, and with the Gunners need for a world class striker still apparent, you’d expect Arsene Wenger would be interested should Benzema become available.
But it looks like he’ll face some stiff competition from Brendan Rodgers this time around – although it will be interesting to see how the Northern Irishman would fit the Frenchman in to his team along with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge if they were to win the race.
