Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will make an €18m (£15m) bid for Alvaro Morata this summer with the player understood to be keen on making the move to the Emirates

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will test Real Madrid’s resolve with an €18m (£15m) bid for Alvaro Morata this summer with the player understood to be keen on making the move to the Emirates, according to the Telegraph.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to north London in recent transfer windows and we were believed to have failed with a bid to bring the striker to England on a six-month loan in January, with Real boss Carlo Ancelotti blocking the players exit.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed last week that Morata has since grown tired of his lack of opportunities at the Bernabeu and has verbally agreed to join Arsenal on a permanent deal if the two clubs can agree a fee.

Further reports suggested that Madrid will sell if a suitable offer comes in and the Telegraph believe Arsene Wenger will renew his interest this summer and is ready to test the La Liga leaders resolve with an €18m (£15m) offer.

The newspaper also indicates that Morata is eager to make the move having only started one league game this season, and is desperate to find more regular action in north London.

The youngster is certainly a huge talent and has shown his potential during his time with Real, even though he hasn’t always been given the opportunity to prove it on a regular basis. His record for the Spanish under-21 side is excellent, having score 12 times in just 11 games, while he also bagged 11 in 13 appearances for the Under-19’s.

There’s little doubt Arsenal need another striker this summer to offer support to Olivier Giroud – particularly as Nicklas Bendtner is also likely to leave – and Morata would be an excellent addition. He’s young enough for Wenger to mold him into the type of striker he wants but he’s also got enough ability that he’ll be able to come straight in and push for a first team place.

It remains to be seen whether £15m will be enough to persuade Madrid to sell one of their star youngsters, but early momentum is already gathering and it looks like this could be a deal that happens this summer.
