Chelsea target William Carvalho has admitted he could make a big-money move from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United at the end of the season, according to Sky Sports News.

The Angolan-born ace has been a stand-out figure at the heart of Sporting’s team this season with his impressive display’s attracting interest from a whole host of top European clubs.

Manchester United have been hot on his trail with David Moyes sending his team of scouts to watch the highly-rated midfielder on several occasions, while Chelsea and Real Madrid are also understood to be interested.

Carvalho has now admitted for the first time that he’s considering a switch to Old Trafford and confirmed he’ll weigh up his future at the end of the season. Speaking after Sporting’s 2-1 win over Braga this weekend, he said:

“It’s nice being praised and to know there are some big clubs interested in me.”

“It could be Manchester United or Real Madrid. It’s just nice to have a great European club after me, but at the moment I’m just totally focused on Sporting and doing my best until the end of the season.

“At the end of the campaign, we will see what happens.” Carvalho is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News

The 21-year-old won’t come cheap though as he has a €45m (£37m) buy-out clause in his contract, although reports last week suggested Lisbon could be persuaded to do business at nearer £24m – which would still be a huge investment for a player who’s only made 20 first team appearances for his club.

United are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer after a disappointing season and David Moyes could have as much as £200m available to rebuilding his squad with. Central midfield is certainly an area the Scot is likely to strengthen with Michael Carrick now 33, Tom Cleverely failing to impress and Marouane Fellaini struggling for form and fitness this season, so Carvalho could be just the man to fill the void.

Chelsea’s need for a powerful midfielder is less obvious after they signed Nemanja Matic in January but Jose Mourinho could still be tempted if Carvalho is available at the right price, although Sporting are likely to try and create a bidding war between interested parties if they do decide to cash-in this summer.
