Van Persie Could Snub Arsenal + Chelsea In Favour Of €20m Nou Camp Switch
Unsettled Manchester United striker Robin van Persie could snub interest from Arsenal and Chelsea to seal a €20million move to Barcelona this summer.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Barcelona are linked with Robin van Persie.
Unsettled Manchester United striker Robin van Persie could snub interest from Arsenal and Chelsea to seal a €20million move to Barcelona this summer, according to the International Business Times.
Speculation has continued to build over van Persie’s future in recent weeks with reports suggesting the 30-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated with life at Old Trafford while team mates are understood to have voiced concerns that the striker is showing signs of discontent at the club.
The Dutchman added fuel to the fire with an extraordinary outburst following United’s 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League last month, where he branded the team as ‘lousy’ and appeared to question the tactics being used by manager David Moyes.
The Mirror claimed last week that Chelsea had joined Arsenal in showing a keen interest in bringing the striker back to London this summer, with reports coming out of Italy suggesting that Arsene Wenger had even met with his former skippers agent to discuss a surprise switch back to the Emirates.
However, it seems the duo will now face stiff competition for van Persie’s signature with the International Business Times tipping the Holland international to make a move to Barcelona with the La Liga champions understood to be ready to renew their interest at the end of the season having missed out on the player in 2012.
The report claims that Moyes is ready to cash-in on RVP in order to raise extra funds to rebuild his squad with, and while the asking price will be in the region of €20m, a potential swap deal could be on the cards with United believed to be interested in Barca midfielder Alex Song.
If van Persie is to leave Old Trafford this summer, a move to the Nou Camp would seem to be the most viable option of the three clubs reportedly interested. A move back to Arsenal would be extremely difficult and the Emirates faithful would be reluctant to welcome him back given how he left the club 18 months ago.
A move to Chelsea would be easier for the player but I’m sure United would prefer to sell abroad rather than to a domestic rival if they had the choice, and a switch to Barcelona would be difficult for the striker to turn down unless he’s adamant he and his family want to remain in England.
