Moyes Hoping To Trump Mourinho With £40m Double Swoop

Manchester United are hoping to beat Chelsea to the signing of Luke Shaw with boss David Moyes readying a £40m double swoop for the left-back and Adam Lallana.

The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd line-up a £40m double swoop.

Manchester United are ready to table a £40million double bid for Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw as David Moyes gets set to rebuild his squad this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Moyes has endured a disappointing first season in charge at Old Trafford since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson last summer, with the club currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table and on course to missing out on a top four finish for the first time in over 20 years.

The defending EPL champions were also dumped out of the FA Cup at home to Swansea while they missed out on a Capital One Cup final at Wembley after losing to Sunderland on penalties, so it’s no wonder Moyes is looking to freshen things up this summer.

The Daily Mail claim that the Scot has already drawn up a long list of ambitious transfer targets but with many of the foreign top stars expected to be put off by the lack of Champions League football likely to be on offer, United are ready to look closer to home.

The newspaper suggests that the Red Devils will test Southampton’s resolve to hang on to highly-rated youngsters Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw by tabling a £40m offer and the club will hope to tie up the double swoop before this summers World Cup finals.

Chelsea have so far been considered as the front-runners to sign left-back Shaw with the 18-year-old a boyhood Blues fan, but it’s understood that United are hoping to persuade the youngster to opt for a switch to Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge by offering him first team football straight away. Patrice Evra is likely to leave United at the end of the season and Shaw could come in and command a first team spot immediately, which is something he might not get under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea with the Portuguese coach a huge fan of Cesar Azpilicueta, who’s impressed at left-back this season.

It remains to be seen whether Shaw can be persuaded to turn his back on a move to the team he grew up supporting, but he might be more inclined if his current team mate Lallana also heads to Old Trafford this summer.

The attacking midfielder has been in superb form for the Saints this season and recently broke into the England set-up, so a big-money move could be on the cards this summer and he’d be an excellent addition to the United squad if they could pull it off.

This is utter bollox. Saints want £25 mill for Shaw if they sell him. Lallana then is £5 mill. Hilarious.
