Predicted Liverpool Starting XI To Take On Man Utd – Coutinho Dropped

Liverpool take on rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, here’s the team we think Brendan Rodgers will select for the game.

The Merseysiders have enjoyed a long break having not played since beating Southampton on the 1st March, so the squad should be refreshed heading into this vital game.

Brendan Rodgers confirmed at his press conference on Friday afternoon that Mamadou Sakho is available again after returning to full training following an extended lay-off with a hamstring injury. However, while it’s a boost to have the Frenchman back in the squad, we don’t think Rodgers will take the risk of starting him in such an pivotal game after over three months on the sidelines. Therefore, the back four is likely to once again consist of Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Jon Flanagan.

Lucas Leiva is also back in contention after recovering from a knee injury and the Brazilian might get a recall to start alongside Steven Gerrard, with Jordan Henderson also lining-up just in front of the duo to offer protection to the back-four.

If Rodgers goes for this slightly more defensive approach, it will mean there could be no place for Philippe Coutinho in the starting eleven, as Raheem Sterling is likely to be retained on the left as he’s been in a rich vain of form in recent months.

Obviously the deadly duo of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez will make up the attack, so here’s the team Rodgers could go with on Sunday:
