Agent Of Brazilian Midfielder Holds Talks With Arsenal But Rivals Also Keen

Arsenal appear to have stolen a march on Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs in the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho after holding talks with the players agent

As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal appear favourites to sign Jorginho.

Arsenal appear to have stolen a march on Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho after holding talks with the players agent last month, according to the Metro.

The Brazilian-born midfielder only moved to Naples in January when he joined Napoli as part of a co-ownership deal with previous club Verona, and he’s impressed during  his 8 appearances so far for Rafa Benitez’s side.

However, it seems the 22-year-old could already be looking for another move this summer with the Metro claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been showing a keen interest in bringing him to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The newspaper suggests that the Gunners have now edged ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the midfielder after the players agent, Joao Santos, supposedly travelled to London last month and held talks with officials from the Emirates club.

The exact details of what was discussed isn’t known but presumably they didn’t meet up to talk about the weather, so a move to north London could now be on the cards despite him only recently moving to Napoli. It’s not uncommon for clubs in countries such as Italy to enter into co-ownership agreements with the aim of selling the player to turn a quick profit, so this could be what Napoli and Verona are planning with Jorginho.

It remains to be seen whether the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs will now step up their interest in the Italian under-21 international, but for now it appears that Arsenal are in the driving seat.

Arsene Wenger is likely to be heavily involved in the market this summer if, as expected, he commits his future to the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, but Jorginho may not be the big-name signing many Gunners fans are hoping for.
