It was a tale of two halves as Manchester City were good value for their 1-0 half team lead but we completely dominated after the break and were perhaps unfortunate not to nick it after Matheiu Flamini had pulled us level in the 53rd minute.

Szczesny 6/10

The Pole was surprisingly quiet as he had few actual saves to make. Could do little for the goal and was otherwise solid from crosses.

Sagna 7.5/10

The Frenchman was always keen to get forward and put in a couple of excellent crosses, one in particular just after Flamini’s goal was exceptional as he put it on a plate for Giroud but the striker didn’t anticipate it.

Mertesacker 7/10

Handled Dzeko pretty well and was important in keeping City at bay as they dominated in the first half. Was always on hand to make vital clearances.

Vermaelen 7/10

Solid outing from the Belgian. Could perhaps have helped cover for Gibbs more in the first half when he was struggling but pleased to see him perform well in a big game.

Gibbs 6/10

Was left exposed in the first half and was overrun by the likes of Navas and Zabaleta, but was far better after the break and helped out in attack.

Flamini 8/10

Back to his all-action best and showed why he must start in the big games. Seemed to be playing a bit further forward in the second half and finished off his goal well.

Arteta 7/10

Fared much better up against Toure and Fernandinho than I expected. Sometimes his lack of pace was exposed but battled well overall and was economical on the ball.

Rosicky 7/10

Worked hard as usual and was vital in closing down and keeping the pressure on the visitors. Didn’t have that much impact in the attacking third though.

Cazorla 8/10

Was our most dangerous player in the first half and was even better after the break. His quick feet bamboozled City on more than one occasion.

Podolski 7/10

Forgot his defensive duties in the early stages as he left Gibbs exposed, but showed he’s a threat at the other end as he set up the goal. Was unlucky not to grab the winner when Hart saved well.

Giroud 6/10

Another frustrating display from the Frenchman. Struggled to have any impact in the first half, and although he improved a little after the break he still didn’t really threaten the City goal.

Subs:

The Ox – 6/10 – Provided us with a bit of pace but too late to have a real impact.

Sanogo – N/A

It was a much improved second half display and it was good to see us have the character to come back from behind against one of the big boys. While our title dream is all-but over, this could turn out to be an important point in the race for fourth that we’re now in with Everton.
