Transfer News: Agent Of £30m-Rated Striker Due In London For Talks This Weekend
The agent of a £30m rated striker is due in London this weekend to hold talks over a potential move to the Premier League, but which club could he be joining?
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, could Seydou Doumbia be heading to the Premier League?
The agent of Arsenal and Chelsea target Seydou Doumbia is due to fly in to London this weekend to hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move to White Hart Lane, according to the Daily Mail.
Doumbia has been in excellent form for current club CSKA Moscow since joining them from Swiss outfit Young Boys in 2010, scoring 68 goals in 98 appearances for the club, including 16 goals in just 18 games so far this season.
His impressive displays have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly showing signs of interest in recent transfer windows but have been put off by CSKA’s asking price, which has been as high as £30m.
The Daily Mail claim that the duo have retained their interest in the 26-year-old but neither consider him to be their first choice target, which could open the door for rivals Tottenham to swoop in.
The newspaper suggests that the north Londoners have registered their interest in Doumbia and the striker’s agent, Jean Bernard Beytrison, is now due to fly into the London this weekend to hold talks over a potential switch to White Hart Lane.
It will be interesting to learn who’s prompted these talks as current boss Tim Sherwood is expected to leave his role at the end of the season, so it would be strange for Spurs to be buying a player before a new manager is put in place.
However, if Doumbia’s agent is in London this weekend then he might just take the opportunity to meet up with officials from Arsenal and Chelsea while he’s in the area, despite the striker not being top of their wish-lists.
The Gunners are expected to add to their strike-force this summer as they have been overly reliant on Olivier Giroud this season, and Doumbia is understood to be behind the likes of Mario Mandzukic on boss Arsene Wenger’s list of key targets.
Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to bring in another front-man this summer and Diego Costa is widely reported to be the Blues’ main transfer target, so Doumbia will have to hope the west Londoners miss out on the Spanish international if he wants to earn himself a switch to Stamford Bridge.
