Manchester City have been handed a major double injury boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool after boss Manuel Pellagrini confirmed Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure are fit to play, according to Sky Sports News.

Aguero has missed City’s last five games due to a hamstring injury and the Argentinean striker was always facing a race against time to get himself fit for the vital trip to Anfield this weekend.

However, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Pellegrini told reporters that Aguero has trained all week and has shown no sign of discomfort, so is therefore in contention to start against the Reds on Sunday.

Pellegrini said:

“Sergio is okay. He has worked the whole week with the squad as normal. He doesn’t have any problems.

“It’s very important – he’s a top player, it’s very difficult for defences to stop him. It’s very important for us.

“You always miss important players like Sergio – we also had a lot of other players injured during the year. But we have a squad prepared. You do not just depend on one player.” Pellegrini is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Despite picking up a number of niggling injuries this season, Aguero has still managed to score 26 goals this season so his return to action will come as a welcome boost to City ahead of what’s being billed as a potential title decider.

Sky Sports claim that Pellegrini also confirmed influential midfielder Yaya Toure is fit despite picking up a knock during last weeks 4-1 win over Southampton, which means the Citizens head to Anfield with Matjia Nastasic their only injury concern.

Liverpool are currently two points clear of second placed Chelsea while City are a further two points adrift – although they do hold two games in hand – so Sunday’s clash is going to prove pivotal in who wins the Premier League trophy this season.
