Liverpool vs Man City Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Key Man + Prediction

Liverpool entertain Man City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in a huge game in the title race. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and prediction.

Anfield Kop

Liverpool entertain Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in a game of huge importance at the top of the table.

The Reds head into the weekend action sitting two points clear of second-placed Chelsea with City a further two points adrift – although the Citizens do have two games in hand – so tomorrow’s game will undoubtedly have a huge say on where the title goes this season.

The game falls just two days before the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster so a minute’s silence will be held before kick off which should add to the emotion of the afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers men continued their sensational run with a hard fought 2-1 win away at West Ham last weekend which was their nine consecutive victory to keep them on course to win their first title since 1990.

However, City are also in excellent form and put four past Southampton last week to keep in touch at the top and extend their unbeaten run to five games, with their last defeat coming against Chelsea back in February.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men also won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Etihad back on Boxing Day when goals from Vincent Kompany and Alvaro Negredo sealed a comeback win after Philippe Coutinho had put Liverpool ahead, so they will be hoping to seal a double tomorrow which would make them firm favourites for the title.

Team News

Liverpool have been boosted by the return of centre-back Daniel Agger after he recovered from a knee injury that kept him out of last weeks trip to Upton Park.

The Dane could come straight back in to replace Mamadou Sakho in defence, while Lucas Leiva may also get a recall if Rodgers opts to go slightly more defensive minded in midfield. Jose Enrique is the hosts only injury concern with the Spaniard set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

City have been boosted by the return to fitness of star striker Sergio Aguero after he recovered from a hamstring strain that’s kept him out for the last five games.

Pellegrini’s only remaining injury worry is defender Matija Nastasic, who continues to nurse a knee injury, while Yaya Toure was passed fit despite picking up a knock last week.

Likely Line-Ups

football formations

Key Man

Luis Suarez: In a game of this magnitude, Liverpool will be looking to Suarez to provide that moment of magic that could turn the game in their favour. No doubt he’ll be the player that City will want to keep quiet.

Predicted Score

Liverpool 2-2 Man City: Without sitting on the fence too much, I really can’t separate the two sides and feel we might get an entertaining score-draw which will keep them both in the title race.
