Liverpool Hold Talks With Agent Of £30m-Rated Chelsea Target
Liverpool have held talks with the agent of Chelsea target Lazar Markovic but the duo have been warned it will take a bid of £30m to persuade Benfica to sell.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool look to have stolen a march on Chelsea over Lazar Markovic.
Liverpool have held talks with the agent of Chelsea target Lazar Markovic but the duo have been warned it will take a bid in the region of £30m to persuade Benfica to sell this summer, according to the Mirror.
Markovic has been hugely impressive at the Portuguese giants since making the move from Partizan Belgrade last summer, scoring 5 goals in 24 league appearances so far, and despite him being at the club less than a year, it’s been reported that Liverpool and Chelsea are both keen on luring him to the Premier League at the end of the season
The duo have been linked with the 20-year-old for some time and Brendan Rodgers had feared the Reds had missed out after reports emerged from the players homeland that claimed Chelsea had already struck a deal to sign the winger this summer.
However, those reports appear to have been false and the Mirror are suggesting that officials from the Merseysiders have now held talks with Markovic’s agents, with the representatives making it clear they are willing to discuss a potential switch to England.
Rodgers is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of not only challenging for the title again next season, but also able to cope with the rigors of playing in the Champions League, and it seems Markovic is a key target.
It remains to be seen how Chelsea will respond if Liverpool have in fact made contact with the players agent, but the major stumbling block over any potential move to the Premier League is likely to be the asking price, with the newspaper claiming that Benfica have quoted a staggering £30m to sell the exciting youngster this summer.
That kind of money is likely to deter Liverpool, even with the extra money they’ll get for returning to the Champions League, while Chelsea might be more fugal in the transfer market as they look to comply with FIFA’s financial fair play rules, so the duo will have to hope Benfica come down on their asking price if they want to land the Serbian international.
