Arsenal + Man Utd Must Act Fast To Land Highly-Rated German International

Arsenal and Man Utd will need to act fast if they want to land Matthias Ginter with Borussia Dortmund on the verge of agreeing an £8m deal to sign the defender

As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Manchester United are tipped to miss out on a defender.

Arsenal and Manchester United will need to act fast if they want to stand a chance of landing highly-rated German international Matthias Ginter with Borussia Dortmund on the verge of agreeing an £8m deal to sign the defender, according to the Express.

Ginter has emerged as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe since breaking in to the Freiburg first in 2012 having spent seven years coming through the clubs youth system.

The 20-year-old has now established himself as a first team regular in the Bundesliga strugglers starting eleven and earned his first cap for the senior German national team last month after representing his country at every youth level.

His impressive displays have also drawn attention from the Premier League with Arsenal understood to have made enquiries over his availability last summer only to be told he wasn’t for sale, while Man Utd have scouted the youngster on several occasions this season.

However, the Express claim that the English duo will have to make their move soon or risk missing out as Dortmund are on the verge of winning the race for Ginter’s signature, with the German giants believed to be close to completing an £8m deal.

Jurgen Klopp has been quick out the blocks to secure his summer targets having already completed deals for Dong-Won Ji, Adrian Ramos and Nuri Sahin in recent weeks, and it looks like Ginter could be next on the list unless Arsenal or United make a late bid to hijack the move.

The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a central defender with Thomas Vermaelen possibly leaving the club after losing his place in the first team, and Ginter would certainly be one for the future and a player who could learn form the more experienced Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny before commanding a regular spot.

However, with Arsene Wenger yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates, it seems the uncertainty over his future could be having an affect on the clubs summer transfer plans and may ultimately see them miss out on Ginter.

The same can be said of United. They too are looking for a new defender to replace Nemanja Vidic but with the club currently looking for a new manager after sacking David Moyes yesterday, the Red Devils are unlikely to make any new signings until a new full-time boss is in place.
