After two games that dropped perfectly for the blue half of Manchester – City have now been re-installed as favourites for the Premier League, just ahead of Liverpool.

It was surely “written” that José Mourinho’s Chelsea would upset the Anfield party and that’s exactly what happened. He’s a past-master at winning the big games as Chelsea showed by beating Man City at the Etihad earlier in the season when City were looking unstoppable.

The 0-2 score-line at Liverpool flattered the visitors but at the business end of the season it’s only the points that matter. According to most pre-match pundits, the rampant Liverpool would simply overwhelm Chelsea – whose focus would also be on the midweek clash with Atletico Madrid. But it didn’t go according to script.

Meanwhile down at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace weren’t able to do Chelsea or Liverpool any great favours – going down 0-2 to Man City who have now been installed as marginal favourites at slightly less than even money with Betfair.

Liverpool still have a great chance, of course, and are 1.34-1 with Betfair to win the title – whilst Chelsea lie a distant third in the betting at 17.5-1.

This is largely because the title is now City’s to lose. Their remaining fixtures at home to Villa and West Ham don’t really look like banana skins. But the one that certainly does is next week’s away game at Everton who will be determined to emerge from their mini slump – even though it does their near neighbours a big favour.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have to travel to Crystal Palace then face Newcastle at home. The Palace game looks like a nervy affair in prospect – and Tony Pulis’s men will be determined to show their mettle again – having lost to Man City.

So perhaps there’s still room for Chelsea to slip in via the back door by beating Norwich at home and Cardiff away – as they surely will?

All in all it looks like being a fascinating end to the best Premier League season ever and those Chelsea odds may well be worth a fun punt with Betfair.
