Ryan Giggs suffered his first defeat as interim Manchester United manager as Seb Larsson scored the only goal of the game to see Sunderland leave Old Trafford with a 1-0 victory.

Giggs made several changes from the side that beat Norwich last weekend and without Wayne Rooney up front, the deposed champions looked a little toothless in attack.

Sunderland clearly had more to play for as they battled to move clear of the relegation zone and they took the lead midway through the first half as Conner Wickham did well to get a cross in and the on-rushing Seb Larsson swept the ball past David De Gea for 1-0.

Neither side could add to the scoreline as the Black Cats held on to move three points clear of the drop zone with two games to play. Watch the goal here:
