Mourinho Asks Chelsea Bosses To Sign Real Madrid Ace

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid starlet Raphael Varane and has already asked club bosses to sign the highly-rated defender this summer.

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Raphael Varane.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid starlet Raphael Varane and has already asked club bosses to sign the highly-rated defender this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Mourinho knows Varane well from his time at Madrid and he gave the French youngster his chance in the first team in 2011 when he was just a teenager after the Spanish giants had paid Lens around €10m for his signature that summer.

Varane eventually forced his way into the first team on a regular basis and made 33 appearances under Mourinho during his final season in charge at the Bernabeu last year, with the centre-back endearing himself to the Real fans after scoring in both legs of their Copa del Rey clash against Barcelona.

However, the France international has failed to kick on and has found first team football harder to come by this campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, making just 21 appearances in all competitions, and it seems Mourinho is keen to be reunited with him this summer.

Spanish newspaper Marca claim that the Portuguese coach has made Varane one of his key summer targets and has already asked his Chelsea bosses if they will do all they can to lure him away from Madrid at the end of the season.

Varane is certainly a huge talent and would be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad, but it remains to be seen whether the Blues would have any luck persuading Real to cash-in on the highly-rated defender.

It’s also debatable whether a young centre-back should be high on Mourinho’s priority list right now considering the club already have Tomas Kalas – who was hugely impressive at Anfield last week – and Andreas Christensen on the books, as well as established names such as Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic.

Obviously John Terry’s future is still unclear but Chelsea signed Kurt Kouma from Saint Etienne in January with the French youngster viewed as a potential long-term replacement for the Blues skipper, so unless one of their other big names is sold this summer, it would be a surprise if Mourinho chose to splash out on another up-and-coming central defender.
