Liverpool came from behind to beat nine-man Newcastle 2-1 at Anfield today but it wasn’t enough as City secured the title with a comfortable victory at the Etihad.
The Reds fell behind early on when Martin Skrtel put through his own net but Daniel Agger was on hand to score the equaliser just after half-time when he slid home from Steven Gerrard’s free kick.
Daniel Sturridge then put Liverpool ahead with a carbon copy goal and Newcastle’s chances of getting back in the game diminished with both Shola Ameobi and sub Paul Dummett being sent off.
The hosts did their job in the end but it wasn’t to be as Manchester City eased past West Ham 2-0 at the Etihad to secure the title.
