Sagna Due In Manchester Today As City Fend Of Utd Interest With £150k-A-Week Deal
Bacary Sagna is due to arrive in Manchester today to hold talks with City over a move from Arsenal as they look to fight off interest from rivals United.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, could Bacary Sagna’s move to Manchester City be tied up today?
Bacary Sagna is due to arrive in Manchester today to hold formal talks with City over a free transfer move from Arsenal and the Citizens plan to fight off late interest from rivals United with a £150,000-a-week contract offer, according to the Daily Mail.
The Frenchman’s contract with Arsenal expires next month and despite holding several rounds of talks over an extension, he’s set to leave the club after failing to agree terms over a new deal.
Sagna and the rest of the Gunners squad celebrated with thousands of fans in North London on Sunday after Arsenal ended their nine-year wait for a trophy by lifting the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Hull City at Wembley on Saturday night.
The supporters made their feelings clear by calling for the 31-year-old to end speculation over his future and commit to Arsenal by regularly signing ‘Bacary Sagna, we want you to stay’ during the open top bus parade around the streets of Islington.
However, the Daily Mail claim that Sagna has made his mind up that he’s going to leave after being left feeling disgruntled at the way his renewal talks have been handled by the club and he’s now due in Manchester today to hold formal talks with Manchester City about a free transfer move to the Barclay’s Premier League champions.
The report states that City are ready to fend off late interest from Manchester United by offering the right-back a three-year deal worth £150,000-a-week, and it’s even suggested that the player could undergo his medical this evening if negotiations go smoothly.
To sign for a domestic rival just 24 hours after celebrating an FA Cup win with the fans would be a ruthless way for Sagna to end his six-year career at Arsenal, and for that reason, I have serious doubts over the accuracy of the Mail’s report.
The defender has also been active on his official Facebook page this afternoon posting videos and photos from yesterday’s celebrations. Is this really something he’d be doing if he was on his way up the motorway to Manchester? No. It’s more likely he’s sitting at home with his family contemplating his next move.
I’m sure he wants his future resolved quickly so he can concentrate on the upcoming World Cup final’s and he may end up signing for City, but I just can’t see Sagna heading off to Manchester so soon. Particularly as technically he’s still under contract with Arsenal.
