Arsenal Set For Balotelli Talks But Liverpool Also Eyeing Controversial Striker
Controversial striker Mario Balotelli looks set to return to the Premier League this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to battle-it-out for his signature
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Mario Balotelli.
Controversial striker Mario Balotelli looks set to return to the Premier League this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to battle-it-out for his signature, according to reports today.
The 23-year-old joined AC Milan from Manchester City in a £19m deal during the January 2013 transfer window but despite scoring an impressive 30 goals in 54 appearances, his time back in Italy hasn’t gone as smoothly as he would have liked.
The former Inter Milan striker has suffered a torrent of racial abuse since making the move back to Italy 18 months ago, and the Daily Mail claim Balotelli has had enough and wants to return to England this summer with Arsenal or Liverpool understood to be the strikers ‘most likely destination’.
The newspaper suggests that the Gunners are already in talks with Real Madrid over long-term target Karim Benzema but will now seek talks with Balotelli’s representatives as well to discuss a potential switch to the Emirates.
There’s little doubt Arsenal need to bring in another striker this summer as they were heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud last season and Balotelli would offer something different to the Frenchman in attack, so it could be a great signing if the north Londoners can strike a deal with Milan.
The Mail suggest that they could face competition from Liverpool with Brendan Rodgers understood to have identified Balotelli as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez should the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona be successful in signing the Uruguayan this summer.
However, I don’t think there’s much chance of Suarez leaving Anfield after the excellent season the Merseysiders have just enjoyed. He’s said he’s happy and has Champions League football to look forward to, so I don’t see the former Ajax hitman pushing for a move any time soon, which should leave Arsenal in pole position to snap up Balotelli.
