Chelsea Make Late Move To Hijack Man Utd’s €33m Deal

By on May 26, 2014

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are back in for Luke Shaw.

Chelsea have made a late move to try and hijack Manchester United’s proposed €33m deal for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw, according to reports today.

Shaw has  emerged as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe after two excellent seasons in the Premier League with Southampton, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League with Chelsea and Manchester United strongly linked with the youngster in recent months.

Chelsea were considered as the early front-runners for his signature as the 18-year-old grew up just around the corner from the Blues Cobham training base and he was being touted as the most likely replacement for Ashley Cole before United put themselves in pole position after opening formal talks with Southampton earlier this month.

Widespread reports suggested that a €33m (£27m) deal was set to be completed before the World Cup but with no formal announcement made as yet, it seems the deposed champions could be gazumped as the Daily Mail are claiming that Chelsea have made a late bid to hijack the move and have now also made contact with the Saints to declare their interest in the left-back.

The newspaper states that Chelsea are yet to submit any official bid, but the blues have asked the South Coast club to keep them informed about how any deal with United is progressing.

It’s certainly curious as to why United have failed to tie up Shaw’s signature after making their opening offer over two weeks ago, and there have been suggestions that new boss Louis van Gaal may have gone cold on the proposed move after Patrice Evra agreed a one-year extension last week.

With Ashley Cole set to leave when his contract expires next month, Mourinho is going to have a void to fill at left-back and it appears Shaw is now back in the Chelsea boss’s thinking, but United fans will be cursing their luck if the defender ends up moving to Stamford Bridge after it looked like he was nailed on to move to Old Trafford.

It must have been really hard to scout Shaw… Chelsea was interested before United, but didn’t want to pay 30M for him. However thanks to PSG crazy Luiz offer Chelsea have some extra money to spend so they rekindled their interest

Luiz Van Gaal, don’t sell Rafeal, Nani, Valencia, Mata, Zaha, Hernandez keep them. Sell the rest like fellaini, anderson, cleverley, young, fletcher, etc. If you want 2 buy new players like kroos, reus, shaw, hummels, janmaat, strooman, vanmeelen, etc promote young players from reserve team like jesse lingard, micheal keane, tom lawrence, many more. Luiz Van Gaal I am manchester united fan since 1999 till date and I sign life contract with red devil old trafford, please do this one for me. I am nigeria manutd fan, Goodmorning GGMU

I am half dutch living in West london, yet I strongly support united. As a fellow dutchman, van gala needs to realise the urgency in signing a quality left back such as shaw. We have missed out on young talent before such as Bale and Pogba, It is essential that Van Gaal acts swiftly to bring shaw and humbles at the very least, rather than go for for long shot targets such as fabregas. Moyes made the sam mistake of going after unrealistic targets.

I think Man United will complete and announce the Luke Shaw deal once Southampton’s manager joins Spurs, maybe this week!
