Arsenal Set To Table €20m Bid For Chelsea Target
Arsenal are set to table a €20m (£16m) bid for Chelsea target Sami Khedira after Arsene Wenger made the Real Madrid midfielder a key summer transfer target
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are ready to move for Chelsea target Sami Khedira.
Arsenal are set to table a €20m (£16m) bid for Chelsea target Sami Khedira after Arsene Wenger made the Real Madrid midfielder a key summer transfer target, according to reports in France.
The Gunners were linked with Khedira back in January but any potential move was put on the back-burner after the midfielder was sidelined with a serious knee injury that saw him miss practically the entire second half of last season.
However, with the 27-year-old now back to full fitness, it seems Wenger is now set to renew his interest and French outlet Le10 Sport claims that the north Londoners are ready to test Real Madrid’s resolve with a €20m (£16m) offer.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade the European champions to sell, but with Khedira set to enter the final year of his contract and no agreement reached over an extension as yet, Madrid are going to have to cash-in now or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
The La Liga giants have also been linked with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti and Ramires in recent months, so Carlo Ancleotti could be more inclined to sell Khedira if he lands one of his key midfield transfer targets this summer.
With Mikel Arteta starting to show his age, Arsenal are in the market for a defensive midfielder and Khedira would be an excellent signing if Wenger could lure the German international to the Emirates. He has plenty of experience at the top level and would offer the perfect defensive foil to compliment the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil next season.
However, the Gunners could face stiff competition from rivals Chelsea with reports claiming that Jose Mourinho is also keen on bringing the former Stuttgart man to the Premier League. The Portuguese coach knows Khedira well from his time at the Bernabeu and with David Luiz and Frank Lampard set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Mourinho is going to need midfield reinforcements and it’s understood he too is lining up a move for the Real Madrid ace.
Khedira is currently in Brazil preparing for the World Cup so it’s likely any talk over his future will be delayed until Germany’s participation is over, so Arsenal and Chelsea may be forced to wait to tie-up any potential deal.
