Agent Confirms Talks With Arsenal + Man Utd Over €37m Ace
The agent of Jackson Martinez has confirmed he is due to hold talks with Arsenal and Manchester United over the coming days as he tries to broker a move.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd are linked with Jackson Martinez.
The agent of Jackson Martinez has confirmed he is due to hold talks with Arsenal and Manchester United over the coming days as he tries to broker a move that could cost up to €37m (£30m), according to reports today.
Martinez has continued his excellent form in front of goal since joining Porto from Mexican side Chiapas two years ago after scoring 60 goals in 91 appearances for the Portuguese giants.
Understandably, his impressive form has led to serious interest in his services and his agent, Peppino Tirri, has now confirmed he is waiting to meet with the strikers manager, Henrique Pompeo, in Italy to discuss the various options they have on the table.
Tirri has revealed that he is set to hold talks with a number of clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester United set to battle it out to try and lure the 27-year-old to the Premier League. However, the duo will face stiff competition as the likes of Roma, Atletico Madrid and Valencia are also on his list of prospective suitors, and the agent feels Porto will be happy to do business at between €31m (£25m) to €37m (£30m).
“I am waiting for Jackson Martinez’s manager, Henrique Pompeo, to arrive in Italy tonight for a series of transfer meetings we’ll have together,”
“It’s true, he will fly in tonight because we have some encounters to evaluate and find the right proposal for Jackson Martinez.
“We’ve got meetings set up with numerous European clubs, as he is of interest to Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Valencia, but also important Italian sides.
“Yes, Roma are a concrete possibility, but they aren’t the only Serie A club interested in Martinez. I repeat, we have many meetings and a lot to do over the next few days.
“We believe Porto will happily do with a sum between £25m and £30m.” Tirri is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
Martinez still has two years left to run on his current contract so Porto are under no immediate pressure to sell, but judging from the comments of his agent, the Portuguese club are ready to cash-in and have given him permission to discuss a move away from the club.
Arsenal are expected to sign a new striker this summer to offer competition to Olivier Giroud next season after being heavily reliant on the Frenchman last campaign, and Martinez would certainly give them an added goal threat.
With the likes of Man Utd and Atletico Madrid also on the case, they have a fight on their hands to lure him to the Emirates. However, the Gunners should feel confident of winning the race as the Colombian international has previously admitted he was a boyhood Arsenal fan and would jump at the chance of moving to the club if given the opportunity.
“I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play.
“It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me.
“If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it.” Martinez is quoted as saying by the Daily Star
Martinez is set to lead the line for Colombia at the World Cup with Radamel Falcao struggling with a knee injury, so the likes of Arsenal and United will hope to get any potential deal tied up quickly as a positive showing in Brazil will only lead to even more competition in the strikers signature.
