Did Fabregas Want To Join Man Utd? Reports Claim He Was Forced To Choose Chelsea

Cesc Fabregas was FORCED to snub a move to Manchester United in favour of a switch to Chelsea by his girlfriend Daniella Semaan, it has been claimed today.

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, more on Cesc Fabregas’ stunning move to Chelsea.

Cesc Fabregas was FORCED to snub a move to Manchester United in favour of a switch to Chelsea by his girlfriend Daniella Semaan, it has been claimed today.

After months of speculation over his future, Fabregas signed for Chelsea on Thursday on a five-year contract in a deal believed to be worth between £27m and £30m – depending on which newspaper you read.

The 27-year-old claimed he had unfinished business in the Premier League and admitted that Arsenal had passed up the opportunity to re-sign him after Arsene Wenger rejected the chance to trigger the clubs first refusal buy-back clause.

Fabregas said in his first statement as a Chelsea player that they were the ‘best choice’ for him as the club matched his footballing ambitions. He said on his Facebook page:

I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time for me to return. Yes, everyone knows that Arsenal had the first option to sign me. They decided not to take this option and therefore it wasn’t meant to be. I wish them well in the future.

I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice. They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager. I am fully committed to this team and I can’t wait to start playing.

However, did Fabregas actually want to join Manchester United? The Express cite reports from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo that claim the midfielder was FORCED to turn down a move to Old Trafford and join Chelsea by his girlfriend Daniella Semaan. The report suggests that Miss Semaan initially didn’t want to leave Barcelona but eventually demanded a move back to London when it became apparent Cesc was heading back to the Premier League.

With Arsenal ruling themselves out of the running, Fabregas would have been left with very little choice other than to accept a move to Chelsea, if these reports are accurate and his girlfriend was insistent on joining a London-based club.

I’m sure Chelsea fans won’t care how Fabregas ended up becoming their player, but it would have been interesting to see where the midfielder would have ended up had his girlfriend not demanded a move to London.

Obviously we’ll never know and the player won’t upset his new team by admitting anything other than they were always his first choice, but the move to Chelsea is an intriguing one.

Did I have the mistaken belief that the contract that Barcelona had was with Fabregas himself .. and not his girlfriend. Maybe Arsenal and United should have negotiated with his girlfriend and not Cesc. Is Cesc so weak that he goes along with ALL his girlfriends demands or is he his own man? This report is absolute BS and probably just an excuse for Fabregas himself to put in front of his Arsenal fans. Truth be told

It’s actually far worse chelsea were his 5th choice!!

    1. Barcelona cesc did not want to leave but they didn’t want him
    2. Arsenal cesc wanted to come even if iteant a drop in salary, we didn’t want him.
    3. Bayern Munich cesc didn’t want to play for any other English team and wanted to rejoin guardiola, bayern said no and his girl didn’t fancy Germany.
    4. Man united – cesc decided if he had to play for another english club it would be united, but his girl said no.
    5. So he plumped for chelsea.

I like how after a big player signs for a big team in the prem that’s not man utd, all the tabloids start saying “the player wanted to join man utd” like everybody must go utd… I’d just like to say utd aren’t the only team in the prem.
