Chelsea + Man Utd Set To Miss Out On German Midfielder
Chelsea and Man Utd look set to miss out on the signing of Toni Kroos with reports claiming that the German midfielder has opted to join Real Madrid in 2015.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea and Man Utd are set to miss out on Toni Kroos.
Chelsea and Manchester United look set to miss out on the signing of Toni Kroos with reports today claiming that the German midfielder has opted to join Real Madrid in 2015.
Kroos has been one of the most talked-about players so far this summer with his future at Bayern Munich in serious doubt after talks over a contract extension stalled. The 24-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal and Bayern have refused to meet his demands leading to speculation he’ll be on the move this summer.
Chelsea and Man Utd are just two clubs who have been strongly linked with the German international in recent weeks with the duo understood to be keen on luring him to the Premier League.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to rebuild a flagging squad that finished seventh last season and he has been tipped to raid his former club for Kroos in order to add some much-needed quality to the center of the park.
Despite the recent signing of Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a swoop for Kroos as the Portuguese coach continues to build a fearsome looking squad at Stamford Bridge.
However, the duo look set for disappointment with the Express citing reports coming from Spanish outlet Marca that claim Kroos has decided to join Real Madrid, but the move will have to wait until 2015 as Bayern Munich are refusing to sell this summer.
If true, it means the midfielder will see out the remaining year of his contract at the Allianz Arena before joining Madrid on a free transfer. An apparent source told Marca:
“It’s impossible with Bayern. The same thing happened to us with Ribery, it was hopeless. Above all, it’s down to the mentality of German clubs. He’ll have to see his contract out.” the source is quoted as saying by the Express
It would be no surprise if Bayern did hold Kroos to the final year of his deal as they suggested they were willing to do so a couple of weeks ago. It would be a brave move to lose such a quality player for nothing, particularly when they could easily get over £20m for him this summer, but it looks like Bayern’s stubbornness will be to Madrid’s gain as they will be able to pick up one of the best midfielders in Europe for nothing.
If these reports are accurate then it will be disappointing not to see Kroos come to England as he’s a top player and it would have been great to see him ply his trade in the Premier League. But it appears he will instead be heading to La Liga leaving Van Gaal and Mourinho needing to look elsewhere for midfield talent.
