Liverpool Chief Flies Out To Try And Finally Clinch €22.5m Deal

Liverpool have resurrected their interest in Alberto Moreno with Ian Ayre set to hold talks with Sevilla to try and secure a deal worth €22.5m for the left-back

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool resurrect talks for Alberto Moreno.

Liverpool have resurrected their interest in Alberto Moreno with chief Ian Ayre set to hold formal talks with Sevilla and the players agent to try and finally secure a deal worth €22.5m for the left-back, according to reports today.

The Merseysiders were strongly linked with Moreno earlier in the summer and at one point is looked as though a move was close when reports suggested the 22-year-old was set to travel to England to finalise a deal.

In the end, these reports turned out to be wide of the mark and any potential deal appeared to be off when Sevilla sporting director Roman Rodriguez Verdejo revealed two weeks ago that negotiations had come to an end after the two clubs failed to agree a fee, with Liverpool’s £16m bid failing to meet the Spaniard’s £20m valuation.

However, it appears Brendan Rodgers hasn’t given up hope of luring Moreno to Anfield with the Mirror claiming that Liverpool CEO Ian Ayre is flying over to Spain to resurrect talks with Sevilla and the players agents.

Although the two clubs remain apart on their valuations, the newspaper suggests that Liverpool hope to take advantage of Sevilla’s financial problems by persuading them to agree on a compromise deal worth €22.5m (£18m).

It’s understood that Moreno is keen for the move to happen, which should certainly go in Liverpool’s favour during negotiations, but Rodgers has identified Swansea’s Ben Davies as a back-up option if they can’t thrash out a deal for the Spanish international.

Left-back has become a priority area for Rodgers as he looks to bring in serious competition for Jose Enrique – who missed the majority of last season with a serious knee injury – and youngster Jon Flanagan – who’s future is likely to be on the right side of defence.

Moreno has just come off the back of an excellent season where he helped Sevilla lift the Europa League trophy but he narrowly missed out on a place in the Spain World Cup squad.
