Chelsea Ready To Hijack Arsenal’s €29m Deal After Midfielder Move Stalls

Chelsea are ready to swoop in for Sami Khedira after his proposed €29m move to Arsenal hit a stumbling block after the midfielder demanded £200,00-a-week.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are ready to swoop for Sami Khedira.

Chelsea are ready to swoop in for Sami Khedira after his proposed €29m move to Arsenal hit a stumbling block after the Real Madrid midfielder demanded wages of £200,00-a-week, according to reports.

Khedira has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent weeks after rejecting Madrid’s latest contract extension offer and with just one-year remaining on his current deal, it looks like the Spaniard’s are willing to cash-in now rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.

Carlo Ancelotti has already found a replacement in compatriot Toni Kroos and speculation over the weekend from Spain suggested that Arsenal were on the verge of beating Chelsea to Khedira’s signature after supposedly agreeing terms over a four-year deal worth £150,000-a-week ahead of a potential €29m switch from Madrid.

However, it looks like those reports were wide of the mark as the Express are now claiming that the deal is is serious doubt after Khedira upped his wage demands to a staggering £200,000-a-week – which would easily make the 27-year-old Arsenal’s highest ever paid player in the clubs history.

Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta but is highly unlikely to smash the clubs wage structure to accommodate Khedira, so unless the German international lowers his expectations, the Gunners may be forced to move for an alternative target such as Morgan Schneiderlin or Lars Bender.

This would be good news for Chelsea as the newspaper suggests that Jose Mourinho is now ready to take advantage of the situation and make a late move to try and lure Khedira to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho knows the midfielder well from their time together in Spain and with the Blues on the look-out for a replacement for David Luiz – who spent much of last season playing the holding role in midfield – the Portuguese coach has identified Khedira as a key target.

Should Chelsea manage to secure a deal ahead of Arsenal then Khedira would become the clubs third major signing following on from the purchases of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa and he’d form a formidable central midfield partnership alongside Nemanja Matic next season.

I’m sure there are a few twists and turns left yet before we find out where Khedira will be plying his trade next year but it would be great to see a player of his quality come to the Premier League.
