Arsenal Tipped To Agree Deal For Man Utd Target As Wenger Prepares €30m Offer
Arsenal could be closing in on the signing of Man Utd target William Carvalho with reports claiming Arsene Wenger will table a €30m bid for the midfielder.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are set to bid €30m for Man Utd target William Carvalho.
Arsenal could be closing in on the signing of long-time Manchester United target William Carvalho with reports claiming Arsene Wenger is set to table a €30m bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
Carvalho is one of the most highly rated young midfielders in Europe after an excellent season with Sporting last year and his impressive performances earned him a place in the Portugal squad for the World Cup finals in Brazil this summer.
The 22-year-old’s form has also led to interest from the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester United among the clubs who have been strongly linked with a move for the powerful midfielder in recent months.
The Gunners have emerged as front-runners for the players signature with reports over the weekend claiming the North Londoners were back in negotiations with Sporting and after seeing a formal €30m (£24m) bid rejected earlier in the summer.
Now, the Metro are citing reports coming out of Portugal that suggest Arsenal are set to make a fresh offer for the player after learning that Lisbon have decided to cash-in on the midfielder to help ease their financial woes.
While Arsene Wenger will stick to his original offer of €30m (£24m), Portuguese newspaper O Jogo suggests that Sporting are likely to accept this time around as Arsenal have agreed to pay the entire fee up front instead of in installments.
Half of Carvalho’s economic rights are owned by a third party investment company so Sporting are desperate to get as much money up front as possible to help balance the books and have some left over to find a suitable replacement.
It’s therefore expected that a deal can be reached between the two clubs at a price well below the players £37m release clause, and Arsenal will then be free to hold talks over personal terms with the midfielder.
It remains to be seen how United will respond and whether Louis van Gaal will make a late bid to try and hijack the move, but for now it appears Arsenal are firmly in the driving seat to land Carvalho this summer.
Arsenal fans have been keen to see the club bring in an athletic defensive midfielder this summer and Carvalho would certainly be an excellent prospect, and he’d add some much-needed physicality to the side, so I’m sure the Emirates faithful would be delighted it Wenger was able to get this deal over the line.
