Germans Determined To Keep €25m Super Star Despite Arsenal & Liverpool Interest

Borussia Dortmund have ruled out selling super star attacker Marco Reus amid growing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool target Marco Reus won’t be moving this summer.

Borussia Dortmund have ruled out selling super star attacker Marco Reus amid growing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, according to reports.

Reus has emerged as one of the best attackers in Europe after two excellent seasons at Dortmund, with the winger scoring 42 goals in 90 appearances since making the move from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012.

However, the 25-year-old’s future at the Westfalenstadion has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks amid reports claiming he has turned down a contract extension offer from Dortmund.

This has led to speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all understood to be keen on luring the German international to England.

It was initially thought Reus has a buy-put clause – which comes into effect next summer – worth around €35m but Bayern Munich chief Karl Heinz-Rummenigga revealed that the clause is actually set at just €25m, which led to suggestions the German giants are trying to unsettle the winger ahead of an approach next summer.

However, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has insisted the club will do everything they can to keep hold of the attacker despite the growing interest.

“We will definitely try to keep him long term.

“Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy.

“He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club.” Zorc is quoted as saying by the Express

These words were echoed by chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, who also revealed that Dortmund are determined to keep hold of Reus not just for this season but for years to come:

“We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave. Marco will play with us next season.”

“There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal.”  Watzke is quoted as saying by the Metro.

So it looks like Dortmund have ruled out cashing in on Reus this summer but it’s certainly going to be interesting to see what happens next year if the player doesn’t sign a new deal in the coming months.

You’d expect every big club in Europe to be interested if he is available for just €25m, as that’s well below what his value would be on the open market. I hope that if Reus does leave Dortmund he opts to move to England as he’d be an excellent addition to the Premier League, and I’m sure the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and United would do everything in their power to win the race for his signature.
