Arsenal have completed the signing of striker Danny Welbeck from Manchester United for a fee believed to be in the region of £16million, the club have confirmed on Arsenal.com.
News broke on Monday afternoon that the Gunners were in negotiations with United over the signing of the 23-year-old forward, and it soon become clear that the Red Devils were willing to allow him to leave after they had agreed a deal with Monaco to sign Radamel Falcao.
There were reports that Welbeck had snubbed interest from Tottenham in favour of a switch to the Emirates, and the BBC were the first to break the news that a £16m fee had been agreed between Arsenal and the former Premier League champions.
A medical and personal terms were soon agreed and the FA granted an extension for the deal to be completed with Arsenal forced to wait until United tied-up the Falcao deal.
However, the North Londoners have now confirmed on Arsenal.com that Welbeck has joined the club on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was forced into the transfer market for another striker after Olivier Giroud was ruled out for four months with a broken tibia and Welbeck will now give the Gunners a fresh option in attack.
He may not be the world class name some Gunners fans were hoping for, but he’s got huge potential and is still young enough to improve further, and no doubt he’ll be keen to prove his doubters and Man Utd wrong.
