Liverpool Tipped To Announce 10th New Signing With Deal Agreed In Principal

The summer transfer window has closed by the fall out continues and some managers are still eyeing possible free transfer deals. Today, Liverpool are linked with Victor Valdes.

Liverpool could be set to announce their 10th summer signing after supposedly agreeing a deal in principal to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to reports.

The transfer window officially closed at 11pm on Monday night but clubs are still able to sign free agents outside of the transfer period, and Valdes is currently unattached after having his contract at Barcelona mutually terminated at the end of last season ahead of a proposed move to Monaco.

The deal to take the 32-year-old to Ligue 1 collapsed due to concerns over the keepers fitness, with Valdes currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury that he suffered back in March.

However, it looks like the Spanish international could be heading to the Premier League with the Express claiming that Liverpool held talks with the player about a move to Anfield on Monday.

It appears those negotiations went well as the newspaper suggests that a deal has been agreed in principal between the two parties and a move could be confirmed by the end of the week.

It’s not clear whether the deal would see Valdes link-up with Liverpool immediately to continue his rehabilitation or whether the Reds will wait until he’s fully recovered from his injury – which isn’t expected to be until the end of November.

Pepe Reina was sold to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer and it looks like Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in some experienced competition for number one Simon Mignolet. Brad Jones is currently number two at Anfield but he doesn’t really offer any serious competition to the first team spot and Valdes would certainly be a major upgrade.

He spent over 10 years at the Nou Camp where he made over 500 appearances and won a whole host of trophies, including three Champions League’s and six La Liga titles, so he’d bring with him a wealth of experience.

Should this deal go through then Valdes will become Liverpool’s tenth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno, Javier Manquillo, Divock Origi, Lazar Markovic and Mario Balotelli.
