Arsenal Already Plotting €25m Bid To Beat Man Utd To German Attacker Next Summer

Arsenal have already made it clear to Borussia Dortmund they will pay the required €25m to trigger the buy-out clause in Marco Reus’ contract next summer

The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to the January and next summers windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are plotting a move for Man Utd target Marco Reus.

Marco Reus

Arsenal have already made it clear to Borussia Dortmund they will pay the required €25m to trigger the buy-out clause in Marco Reus’ contract next summer, according to reports.

Reus is widely regarded as one of the best attackers in Europe after two excellent seasons at Dortmund, where the winger has scored 42 goals in 90 appearances since making the move from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012.

His future at the Westfalenstadion is uncertain due to a buy-out clause in his contract which kicks in next summer that will allow him to leave for just €25m (£20m) – which represents an absolute bargain in today’s over inflated market for a player of his quality.

Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old this summer with reports suggesting the Gunners may even have had an agreement in place to sign the attacker before he suffered an ankle injury before the World Cup.

Manchester United were also among the clubs understood to be keeping a close eye on Reus’ situation with Louis van Gaal believed to have identified the German international as a potential new recruit in his new-look line-up at Old Trafford.

However, it appears Arsenal are hoping to steal a march on their Premier League rivals with the Express reporting that Arsene Wenger has already made it clear to Dortmund that he will pay the required €25m (£20m) to trigger the players buy-out clause next summer.

Obviously a lot can happen in the next nine months before the 2015 summer transfer window opens but it’s a real statement of intent from Arsenal to have declared their intentions at this early stage. It remains to be seen how the likes of Man Utd or any other top European club will respond, but I’d guess there will be a long queue of interested parties should Reus make it to next summer without signing a new deal at Dortmund.

Understandably, the Bundesliga outfit are keen to tie him down to fresh terms that would at the very least see the buy-out clause increased, if not removed entirely, but for now clubs will continue to circle as they know Reus could be snapped up for just €25m next year.
