Cristiano Ronaldo is willing to snub interest from Chelsea to join Manchester United next summer but will demand wages worth a staggering £500,00-a-week, according to reports today.

Ronaldo has been tipped to leave the Bernabeu next summer by some corners of the media in recent weeks with reports suggesting the Portuguese superstar has fallen out of love with the club and is keen to head back to the Premier League next year.

An emotional return to Manchester United has been talked about for some time but speculation last week suggested Chelsea were ready to battle-it-out with the Red Devils for the 29-year-old’s signature, with Jose Mourinho apparently keen to be reunited with the Ballon d’Or winner after the pair enjoyed a close relationship during their time together in Spain.

However, the Daily Star claim that Ronaldo has his heart set on a return to Old Trafford and the decision is now on boss Louis van Gaal whether to push ahead with a deal next summer.

The newspaper suggests Real Madrid will want £60m for the player but United are seemingly concerned about the lack of sell-on value, which could see van Gaal decide to spend the money elsewhere.

Splashing out £60m on a player who will be 30 next summer would certainly be a bold move but there is also the wages to consider and the Daily Mail claim that Ronaldo will demand a staggering deal worth £500,000-a-week in order to make the move.

If United’s money-men are concerned about spending a large transfer fee on a 30-year-old, I’m sure they will also have their reservations about handing him a record-breaking contract, so there has to be doubts over whether a deal will be sanctioned.

I’m sure United fans would love to see Ronaldo come back to the club but given the financials involved and the players age, you couldn’t blame van Gaal if he decided against bringing him back to Old Trafford and spent the money on strengthening other areas of his squad.
