Who Replaces Debuchy? Predicted Arsenal Starting XI To Take On Borussia Dortmund

By on September 15, 2014

Arsenal kick off their Champions League campaign away at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, here is Gooner Mac’s predicted starting eleven for the game.

Goalkeeper: David Ospina was in the squad for the first time on Saturday but he’s not likely to displace Wojciech Szczesny any time soon.

Defence: Arsene Wenger has a big hole to fill at right-back with Mathieu Debuchy set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury. Calum Chambers is the obvious choice and unless he’s needed at centre-back for any reason, the 19-year-old should start on the right side of defence. I’d also expect Kieran Gibbs to come in for Nacho Monreal at left-back.

Midfield: Mathieu Flamini was a surprising starter against City and I can only assume either Arsene wasn’t convinced Mikel Arteta was 100% fit or he was holding him back for the Dortmund game. Either way, I hope Arteta comes back in as Flamini is a very limited player and he was exposed again on Saturday with his lapse in concentration costing us the first goal.

Jack Wilshere was superb against City and will surely keep his place in the starting eleven, and despite his patchy early-season form I’d also expect Aaron Ramsey to retain his place at the heart of midfield.

Attack: With Wenger deploying a 4-1-4-1 formation so far this season, it’s seen Mesut Ozil pushed out wide and it’s certainly affecting his form. He started on the left on Saturday but looked more comfortable on the right where he ended the game. I don’t see Wenger dropping his record signing so he’s likely to start out wide once again with Alexis Sanchez on the opposite flank. Danny Welbeck had an encouraging debut up front and he should retain his place despite bring forced off with cramp late on against City.

This is how we could line-up tomorrow:

What do you think of this team? What eleven would you pick?

Looks about right although for me I would be tempted to withdraw Ramsey put Ozil in that slot and put the Ox out on the right.

Where’s Cazorla? What’s Arteta doing in there? Persisting with an average player like Arteta reveals the lack of strength in depth of our team. He just doesn’t have what it takes.. Sorry Arteta but that’s true! Already this season is looking bleak for us unless Wenger surprises us all during the January window.
