Tottenham make the short trip across North London to take on rivals Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday evening, here’s the team we think Mauricio Pochettino will select for the game.

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris will come back in to the starting eleven after being rested for Wednesday nights League Cup win so Michel Vorm will drop back to the bench.

Defence: Pochettino is expected to recall a number of first team regulars after making wholesale changes last night so the likes of Younes Kaboul, Eric Dier and Danny Rose should come back in. Jan Vertonghen has fallen out-of-favour recently so Vlad Chiriches is favourite to start at the back.

Midfield: Etienne Capoue and Mousa Dembele are expected to be recalled after being given well-earned rests in midweek so Benjamin Stambouli and Nabil Bentaleb should drop out.

Attack: Spurs lacked creativity during last weeks 1-0 defeat to West Brom so there’s a strong case that Pochettino should change things up in attack. However, he’s stuck with Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Lamela as his attacking three behind Emmanuel Adebayor all season in the league, so we think he’ll do likewise this weekend.

So here’s how Pochettino could line-up his side this weekend:

What do you think of the team? What side would you select?

Lloris in goal, obviously (Vorm looked good in his debut in the Capitol One Cup, though). Retain Rose at LB — Davis just hasn’t done enough for me yet. Interesting comparison between Rose and Davis — Rose = fast, poor final ball; Davis = slow, better final ball (a few nice crosses into the box v Forest). I don’t like Kaboul and Chiriches to start…at least not in the Prem. Stay with Vertonghen and Fazio, or Dier to finally get a try at his preferred CB instead of Fazio. Seemingly a knee-jerk response after Forest game, but I would ride the wave and make the bold move of starting Mason at DM alongside Capoue. Stambouli still finding his feet — keep for Cup games for now. Not convinced by Bentaleb — also for Cup games, in my view. Attacking unit? Like some others, although I don’t know if the Arsenal game is the one to try it out, I really do want to see Soldado play with Lamela and Eriksen. Whomever else plays in attack, I want to see those three together at some point…and it looks like the only way that will happen is if Soldado starts in the Prem. If not against Arsenal, then another game, perhaps. IF those three, then I would be tempted to play Kane in the hole behind Soldado, with Eriksen on the left and Lamela on the right. If Adebayor up front, then Lamela in the hole, Eriksen (surprisingly, but…) on the left, and, perhaps my most unpopular choice…Lennon on the right. Not convinced by Chadli (almost a better striker?) or Townsend.

Well like many others, apparently, I made Mason MoM despite appearing as a substitute. However, I didn’t think he was in the named PL 25 so can he be picked ? I would play Erikson in the hole and not Kane who I think is too slow. Would continue with Soldado – he scored a good goal and dropping him will do nil for his confidence.

As I understand it, Ryan Mason is NOT in the PL named squad, so cannot play on Saturday.

Yeah, I hope this writer is DEAD WRONG on at least two counts. How can Chiriches be preferred to Vertonghen who by all accounts was faultless when he played against Forest? Only if Pocho is as small-mindedly stupid as Redknapp was in taking meathead grudges against talents like Dos Santos. The other one is if he persists with 4-2-3-1. Didn’t he notice the difference against Forest when Spurs were reformed to two up front — like millions of people around the world did? If not, he’s as thick as AVB was in this regard.

My mistake…I forgot about Mason not being able to play in the Prem at the moment! In that case, I’m actually at a loss. I suppose a more attacking mindset would suggest Dembele or Paulinho, both of whom are hot and cold these days, to say the least. Such a move, however, might open us up…in which case, despite their similarities, I might go with Capoue and Stambouli. Poch will attack, though, so I’m expecting something like Dembele alongside Capoue. Hmm…

      hugo lioris

      dier, kaboul, vertonghen, danny rose

      lamela, erikson, chadli, lennon

      soldado, adebayor

This team here would show real bravery by Mauricio. The team need to work hard like he’s philosophies he goes on about, we don’t need to put defensive midfielders on for this game its a derby all the big players need to be on. townsend can come on for either lamella or lennon dembele and capoue can come on if we need to protect a lead or if we are getting thrashed. i don’t think bentaleb or any youngster should be used for this derby to start with the big names need to step up and take responsibility. stambouli shouldn’t get game time either as he cannot understand what it must feel like to play in a london derby yet. don’t you just miss dawson at this time, hope he’s ok. anyways oh i forgot maybe jermain defoe, wait who is going to be taking responsibility if we loose to arsenal and end up in a moyes situation with mauricio please have mercy levy if we loose this. I hope maricio turns out victorious and it will hide the fact we have won one game in four coz he seems like he wants this to work. Anyways back to the team and weekends big game four words come on you spurs

If we play this squad we will lose by at least 4 goals.

        Dier Kaboul Jan Rose
        Capoue Paulinho
        Lamela Eriksen Chadli

Paulinho plays better as DM than behind the striker, so I think the flak he’s getting the past couple weeks is unfair (he did just miss a half-volley against Forest that would’ve quieted everyone, too). If Mason can play in EPL I’d play him instead of Paulinho, as he’s more than earned a chance in the first XI, but it doesn’t look like he’s registered

masons n squad think number 38 so is eligible will probably come on as sub at some point. think criticisms a bit unfair as the teams hardly played together with this system, as long as they make the effort missing last week vs west brom maybe wait till i make judgement

Chiriches is a joke Fazio is a superior centre back Dier is no right back and come to think of it neither is Naughton play without a right full back and play Kaboul in a back line defence of Kaboul Fazio Vertonghen Dier Rose , Dembele and Paulhino and Bentaleb are terriable Ryan deserves a place with Soldado and Adebyor and Kane , LLoris Kaboul Fazio Vertonghen Dier Rose Townsend Ryan Lamela Soldado Adebyor

      Dier kaboul vertonghen rose
      Dembele Capoue
      Lamela Erikson Townsend

Need to exploit their weakness at fullback so may need to bring Lennon on at some point to give us more width. I definitely wouldn’t start chiriches or chadli.

    loris dier fazio vertonghen davies

    lennon capou stromboli erikson

    adebyor soldado

this eventually will be our strongest team, so go with it, townsend too predictable and does not defend, lamela to come on at some stage as he will get better and better
