Houllier, Benitez and now Hodgson, Liverpool fans deserve better than this!

1990 Liverpool Champions for a record 18th time. 2010 and Liverpool are 11th in the Premier League and going backwards under the latest Liverpool manager who has failed to deliver for the famous club.

Roy Evans, Gerrard Houllier, Rafael Benitez and now Roy Hodgon have palpably failed in their times in charge of the famous club. On Saturday we were toothless against Stoke, of all teams.

Let us hope that the new regime of John Henry and NESV have seen enough of this dross and they decide to act in bringing in a top-class manager or else we are in for a relgation dog-fight for the rest of the season, I’m afraid.

rafa did not fail – he had one bad season (finishing 7th), which is higher than we will finishe this season with Roy.

please don’t be foolish enough to bracket Roy with Rafa (one of the best manager we have ever had) or even Evens & Hollier, Roy is not in the class of any of those managers. Thanks but no thanks for such a terrible opinion

What an utterly idiotic headline. You’ll go far in journalism with shite like that.

Houllier set us on the right track, put us back on the European map, invented the Academy, but finally ran out of ideas (and probably didn’t help himself signing mainly French youngsters who didn’t make it). I wouldn’t see him as a failure given in what state he took us over.

Benitez arrived on the ruins left by the clueless inspector Clouseau facing a huge task to make Liverpool a force once again. In Rafa Liverpool had one of the brightest young managers in Europe. Liverpool won the UCL, the FA Cup and were on their way to their second UCL final in three years when Moores and Parry sold the club to two American asset strippers and the club haven’t won anything since. Despite negative transfer budgets Rafa took Liverpool to their highest ever points tally in the Premiership scoring the most goals on the way. In my opinion Rafa overachieved in the impossible circumstances he had to work in and will be remembered as a Liverpool legend.

But opinions are like R-soles, everybody has one.

Roy on the other hand was appointed by directors with no football knowledge and is clearly out of his depth. 35 years of mediocrity in football management speaks for itself.

Hoilier did fine -took us as far as he could. Rafa got us to two European Cup finals and 2nd in the league and only once failed to qualify for the Champions League. He was a big time q

Yes we do deseve better. We deserve to have Rafa back at Anfield. The man won us the CL. Got us ranked number 1 in Europe, won the FA Cup and within a whisker of winning the PL. All thi son a budget that would emabarrass a relegation side.

There are no surprises in the prem all the teams that have won the league have done so with large investment (do not use arsenal as an example they have spent money in their time). We haven’t had any investment in 3 years we have one forward and no decent wingers.

“Opinions are like R-soles”- don’t know what that means but I think you are referring to Liverpool “supporters” who have a few drinks in the sandon and think they have all the answers… Have you listened to these people can hardly string a sentence together. I prefer to concentrate on reality and the reality is Hodgson is not a bad manager what he did at Fulham speaks for itself. Virtually everywhere he’s gone he’s had success in relative terms. Just to reiterate things are not going to get better until we get investment. The probability of finding a manager who is better than Roy Hodgson is slim.

Hopefully we will get investment but things will not (unfortunately) change overnight it will take time, get back to reality let’s get behind the manager and the team: support Liverpool.

We won’t be in a “relegation dogfight”. We just won’t be credible title challengers or playing attractive, attacking football either. In reality, under Hodgson we’ll just probably be on the periphary of a challenge for the European places, which is not what we wanted or expected.

By continuing to criticise Hodgson with such falsehoods, instead of just focusing on reality (in which case he is still failing anyway), it is easier to deflect criticism with the minimum of effort.

I think it is a bit disingenuous to omit Souness from all the blame. I’m pretty sure you can trace all our current problems back to him. Dismantling all the infrastructure at the club, buying below par players, alienating both playing staff and backroom staff. In many ways, similar to Benitez, by trying to run the club in a totalitarian way, and never accepting any blame or responsibility. Difference is that Benitez managed a success along the way.
I do feel sorry for Roy, but if there was ever a game that you would play Poulson in, then it was away at Stoke.
