Sami Khedira is ‘desperate’ to seal a move to Arsenal after agreeing personal terms with the Gunners ahead of a potential January switch to the Emirates, according to reports.

Khedira is now in the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and is expected to leave the European champions after turning down a contract extension offer back in June.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea were strongly linked with the midfielder during the summer transfer window but neither club were prepared to meet his excessive wage demands so he ended up staying at Madrid despite not penning a new contract.

The duo are understood to have retained their interest and reports over the weekend claimed that the Gunners have now put themselves firmly in the driving seat to secure his signature after supposedly agreeing personal terms with the German international.

All that remains is for Arsenal to agree a fee with Madrid and is seems Khedira could be heading to the Emirates in January, and the Daily Star are reporting today that the 27-year-old is ‘desperate’ to seal a move to North London this winter.

The newspaper states that Madrid president Florentino Perez is determined not to let Khedira leave for nothing in the summer so is keen to negotiate his sale in January if no compromise can be reached over a new deal.

This should work in Arsenal’s favour as it means the midfielder should be available at a cut-price deal, although Wenger may decide to hold out until the summer to land the player on a free transfer if Madrid try to play hard-ball over the price.

It remains to be seen how Chelsea will react to the news that Arsenal have apparently agreed terms with Khedira’s camp, as Jose Mourinho is understood to be a huge fan of the German’s and would like to add another powerful midfielder to his squad as doubts continue over the long-term future of John Obi Mikel – who has fallen out-of-favour under the Portuguese coach.

However, for now it appears Arsenal are firmly in the driving seat and it would be a major coup if the North Londoners could pull it off, as they are crying out for a dominant midfielder to compliment the creative talents of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere and Khedira would be an excellent addition.
