Arsenal Tipped To Seal January Deal For Barcelona Starlet

The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with another Barcelona youngster.

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated Barcelona goalkeeper Andrey Onana when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

We were strongly linked with Onana during the summer months when reports claimed that we had held talks with his representatives about a potential move to the Emirates.

It’s understood we came close to agreeing a deal, but in the end the 18-year-old opted to remain at the Nou Camp and try and earn himself a new long-term contract with the Catalan giants.

However, despite putting in some impressive displays for the Barca youth team, no new contract has been put forward and this has led to fresh speculation he is set to leave Spain when the window opens in January.

The Express claim that Arsenal scout Francis Cagigao has continued to monitor Onana’s progress and has now convinced Arsene Wenger to do all he can to bring the Cameroonian youngster to the club.

The newspaper suggests that with the keepers future at Barca under severe doubt, Arsenal are confident of sealing his signature this winter and finally luring the highly-rated stopper to North London.

We already have Wojciech Szczesny and David Opsina as our established first and second choice keepers, so Onana is likely to battle it out with Damien Martinez to be our No.3 if he does make the move to Arsenal.

He’s unlikely to be pushing for a first team place any time soon so Onana isn’t going to make an immediate impact, but it’s always important to look to the future and he certainly sounds like he could have a bright future ahead of him.
