van Gaal To Offer Top Arsenal & Chelsea Target €7m-A-Year Deal

Manchester United are hoping to trump Arsenal and Chelsea to the signing of Sami Khedira by offering the Real Madrid midfielder a €7m-per-year deal.

The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are set to make an offer to Arsenal and Chelsea target Sami Khedira.

Sami-Khedira

Manchester United are hoping to trump Arsenal and Chelsea to the signing of Sami Khedira by offering the Real Madrid midfielder a €7m-per-year deal, according to reports.

Khedira is now in the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and is expected to leave the European champions after turning down two contract extension offers.

Madrid have not yet given up all hope of persuading the 27-year-old to sign a new deal and it’s understood they are planning to hold further talks with the players representatives, but understandably his situation has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Khedira will also be able to hold formal talks with foreign clubs as of January 1st and recent reports have suggested Arsenal have already held informal negotiations with the German internationals camp about a potential switch to the Emirates.

Chelsea have also been strongly linked with the former Stuttgart ace with Jose Mourinho believed to be keen on working with him again having enjoyed a good relationship during their time together at Madrid.

However, it appears the London duo are now going to face stiff competition for his signature with the Express claiming that Manchester United have now entered the chase and are looking to blow their rivals out the water by offering Khedira a bumper contract worth €7m-per-season.

Louis van Gaal spent over £150m in the summer rebuilding his squad but the Dutchman is expected to be active in the market in January with a central midfielder likely to be high on his agenda, and Khedira would be a fine addition.

Madrid are unlikely to want the midfielder to simply walk away for nothing next summer so there is a chance the European champions would cash-in in January if no new deal was agreed before that point, but the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United may decide to just wait it out and try and sign the player for nothing next summer.

How would he fit in?

Arsenal arguably need a dominant midfielder more than their rivals as Mikel Arteta is showing his age and is struggling with injuries, while Mathieu Flamini’s limitations have been exposed this season, so Khedira would be an excellent foil alongside the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere in the Gunners midfield.

Chelsea boast one of the most impressive midfield’s in the league with Cesc Fabregas forging a superb partnership alongside Namanja Matic but the signing of Khedira would allow Mourinho to play two powerful players in front of his defence with Fabregas pushed a little further forward.

If Khedira was to move to Old Trafford, he may find himself given a slightly more advanced role as van Gaal already has Daley Blind and Michael Carrick to fill the base of his diamond in midfield, and he may find himself battling with Ander Herrera for a place in the starting eleven.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how Khedira’s future develops over the coming weeks and it looks like there’s going to be a scramble to try and lure him to the Premier League if he fails to agree fresh terms with Madrid before the turn of the year.
