Wenger Confirms Double Boost With Duo Set For Injury Return

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed a double injury boost with David Ospina and Mathieu Debuchy set to return to full training next week.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed a double injury boost with David Ospina and Mathieu Debuchy set to return to full training next week.

Ospina made the move to the Emirates from French oufit Nice in the summer but has endured a hugely frustrating start to life in North London as the Colombian has managed just one start and one substitute appearance due to a niggling thigh injury.

The 26-year-old first picked up the problem at the World Cup but looked to have fully recovered before aggravating the issue when he came on as a sub during our Champions League win over Galatasaray on October 1st.

He’s been nursing the injury ever since and has had to sit on the sidelines and miss the perfect opportunity to stake his claim for a first team spot with Wojciech Szczesny currently out with a hip injury.

However, Wenger has confirmed that Ospina is now finally set to return to action with the keeper due to resume first team training at some point next week.

And in a double boost, the goalkeeper will be joined by defender Mathieu Debuchy after the boss also revealed the Frenchman is set to return from a three months injury layoff.

The 29-year-old made an encouraging start to his Arsenal career having made the move from Newcastle in the summer but his progress was cut-short after he suffered ankle ligament damage against Manchester City in September.

Speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of tomorrow nights clash with Southampton, Wenger said:

It will be a major boost to have both Ospina and Debuchy back in the squad, especially over the busy Christmas and New Year period when the games come thick and fast.

Debuchy in particular will make a huge difference as our options are limited at the back and we’ve sorely missed out first choice right-back in recent months, so I can’t wait for him to get back and really kick-start his career at the club.
