Liverpool vs Sunderland Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Prediction & Betting

Liverpool take on Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. Here is a preview with team news, likely line-ups, predicted score and betting tips for the game.

Anfield Kop

Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins from three when they take on Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds head into the game off the back of successive victories with a 1-0 win over Stoke last weekend followed by a 3-1 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night that saw Liverpool come from a goal down.

Those results have lifted the Merseysiders up to eighth in the Premier League table but Brendan Rodgers will be looking for another three points this weekend to close in on the top four and give his side a boost ahead of their crucial Champions League showdown with Basel on Tuesday.

Sunderland arrive at Anfield having lost 4-1 at home to Manchester City in midweek with that loss coming just days after holding leaders Chelsea to a 0-0 draw, so it’s certainly been a difficult week for the Black Cats.

The North East club currently sit 14th in the table but are just two points clear of the drop zone so Gus Poyet will be desperate to pick up their first win in four games to put some distance between them and the relegation dog fight.

Team news

Rodgers could be tempted to give some of his key men a rest ahead of Tuesday’s vital Basel game with Steven Gerrard the most likely to get a breather.

Philippe Coutinho is expected to be recalled after recovering from a minor knee injury with Adam Lallana possibly dropping out to the bench.

Jose Enrique is also available again after sitting out of Tuesday’s win but Alberto Moreno could be given the nod at left-back with Glen Johnson missing out.

Daniel Sturridge is in the United States continuing his rehabilitation from a thigh injury while Mario Balotelli remains out with a groin issue, so Rickie Lambert is likely to start in attack once again.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has hinted he’ll make a few changes for the game after admitting his side were ‘heavy legged’ against City.

Ricky Alvarez is in-line for a recall after coming off the bench in midweek while Adam Johnson is available again after recovering from a leg injury.

Wes Brown is also back in contention and should replace Sebastian Coates as he’s ineligible to play against his parent club.

Likely Line-Ups

Predicted Score

Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland: The Black Cats have endured a difficult last two games and have a terrible record at Anfield having never won there in the Premier League era, so I can’t see past a home win here.
