Arsenal have been dealt another double injury blow with Arsene Wenger confirming that Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny will both miss Sunday’s crunch clash against Liverpool after being ruled out for ‘a few weeks’.

Koscielny has endured an injury-plagued season with a niggling Achilles injury seeing him miss eight weeks between October and November after aggravating the problem while away on international duty.

The Frenchman’s return to action lasted just two matches after he picked up a calf injury and he’s been forced to sit out the last three games against Stoke, Galatasaray and Newcastle.

It was hoped the 29-year-old could recover in time to face Liverpool, however, Wenger has now confirmed that his best defender will miss this weekends trip to Anfield and isn’t expected back any time soon.

To make matters worse, the Gunners will also be without influential midfielder Aaron Ramsey after he too was ruled out for ‘a few weeks’ with a hamstring injury.

The Welshman suffered the problem after scoring twice against Galatasaray last week and although the injury was only initially thought to be a minor one, Wenger has revealed that the 23-year-old is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

He told Arsenal.com:

on Ramsey and Koscielny’s injuries…

I have a better idea. Ramsey will be out for a few weeks and Koscielny as well. They will not be back next week.

It leaves Arsenal with a lengthy injury list for the busy festive period with Koscielny and Ramsey joining Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Mesut Ozil, Nacho Monreal, Abou Diaby, and Tomas Rosicky on the sidelines.

Calum Chambers will return from suspension so should partner Per Mertesacker at the center of defence during Koscielny’s absence but Wenger has a real problem in midfield with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also a major doubt after picking up a groin injury.
