By on December 20, 2014

Tottenham Hotspur held on to beat Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane this afternoon with Erik Lamela scoring a superb winner.

Spurs opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Harry Kane continued his excellent recent goal-scoring record, as he headed home from close range following a Nacer Chadli cross.

Burnley drew themselves level just minutes later when Ashley Barnes curled home a stunning 25 yard effort which gave goalkeeper Hugo Lloris absolutely no chance.

However, the hosts pulled clear once again when Erik Lamela made it 2-1 in the 35th minute with an equally stunning strike as he curled in a left-footed effort from the edge of the area. Burnley pressed for a late goal but Spurs held on to seal the three points.

The win sees Tottenham move above North London rivals Arsenal into sixth place in the Premier League and within four points of fourth-placed West Ham United.
