It was certainly an eventful day for Martin Skrtel as he played a central role in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The 30-year-old was unable to prevent the visitors scoring a vital equaliser on the stroke of half time as Mathieu Debuchy’s header deflected past Brad Jones via Skrtel’s head.

The Slovakian international then required lengthy treatment after Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud accidentally stood on the back of his head early in the second half.

However, the long-serving Reds centre-back soldiered on and had the final say as he powered home a towering header in the 97th minute to salvage a last gasp 2-2 draw for the Merseysiders.

Skrtel has taken to Instagram to upload a photo of the nasty cut he suffered from the boot of Giroud and as you can see it required several staples to close the wound.

The Liverpool centre-back posted an accompanying message saying he was disappointed with the result but glad he could rescue a late point:

Disappointing with the result but happy to scored that late goal and helped the team to get at least the point!
