Liverpool Ready To Battle Man Utd For Portuguese International
Liverpool have joined Man Utd in the race for out-of-favour Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao ahead of a January transfer scramble, according to reports.
With the January transfer window just around the corner managers are getting ready to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Fabio Coentrao.
Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race for out-of-favour Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao ahead of a January transfer scramble, according to reports.
Coentrao has been at the Bernabeu for three-and-a-half years since his move from Benfica in 2011 but he’s failed to displace Marcelo at left-back and has made just 4 league appearances so far this campaign.
With the Portuguese international clearly down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti, he’s expected to leave Madrid during the January transfer window and it appears he could be heading to the Premier League.
The Express claim that Manchester United have been leading the race for his signature with Louis van Gaal on the look-out for another full-back to compete with Luke Shaw – whose struggled for fitness ever since his big-money move to Old Trafford in the summer.
However, it looks like the Red Devils will face stiff competition as the newspaper suggests that Liverpool have also joined the race for Coentrao’s signature and the pair will now battle-it-out next month.
Brendan Rodgers has recently changed the Merseysiders style to a 3-4-3 formation and it appears the Northern Irishman sees Coentrao as the ideal man to fill the left wing-back role in his new-look side.
The 26-year-old may not be in favour at Madrid but he’s still a top class player who’d be an excellent addition for either United or Liverpool, so it will be interesting to see if they’re able to lure him to England next month.
